Green Beauty Review

Beauty Heroes Review

Beauty Heroes is by far one of my favorite green beauty subscription boxes. There are a ton of options out there for sub boxes (you can check out my green beauty subscription box database to check them all out). However in my opinion Beauty Heroes stands at the very top for several reasons. One is the value – you pay 3 or 6 or 12 months at a time and the cost per box varies from $42.95 to $37.96 respectively and the value of the products in the box are guaranteed to be at least $90 and usually a lot more. The second main reason is the curation. Beauty Heroes has an incredible ingredient standard and Jeannie Jarnot, the founder, personally meets with almost every brand owner and gets to know each brand on a personal level before bringing them onto the Beauty Heroes team. And these are full sized products you’re getting,  there is also a “Hero” product which is the main feature and then a “Sidekick” product which could be a deluxe sample or an accessory if the Hero is exceptionally valuable.

We’re talking the best of the best in the green beauty world delivered to your door once a month for at least a 50% discount. In addition, as a subscribing member you get an automatic 15% discount in the Beauty Heroes store which houses all the products from the monthly boxes as well as tons of additional brands and products that are vetted. This alone is one of the best perks I’ve seen in the subscription box world. I shop almost exclusively from the Beauty Heroes store because the selection is unmatched and coupled with my 15% member discount I can’t get a better deal anywhere else.

I’ve been a Beauty Heroes member since August 2017, over a year now, so I figured it was time to write an in depth review of the box as a whole and the products I’ve received along the way. Here we go!

PRODUCTS

August 2017 – Mahalo.care

  • The Bean mask (full size) & mask brush
  • Value: $100
  • I signed up this particular month because of this mask, I was dying to try it and finally took the plunge. It is by far one of my top 3 masks if not my absolute favorite due to it’s amazing ingredients and all encompassing uses. It seriously does a little of everything: brighten, exfoliate, detoxify, heal, nourish, etc.
September 2017 – Skin Owl
  • Beauty Drops PM Maqui Berry (full size) & Beauty Whip Maqui Berry (deluxe sample)
  • Value: $113
  • Again, I was super excited to be trying products from Skin Owl and these did not disappoint. The Maqui Berry Beauty Drops were HEAVENLY and have helped keep my skin soothed and acne free. The Beauty Whip quickly became a hero product itself, again, because it’s such a great multi-tasker. My favorite use is as a makeup primer, this will give your skin the most perfect glow and soft texture.

October 2017 – Linne Botanicals

  • PURIFY face wash (full size) & ACTIVATE body wash (full size)
  • Value: $106
  • Linne was a brand I had not heard of before getting my Beauty Heroes box, which is absolutely something I love, discovering new brands. And it quickly became a favorite, the PRUIFY face wash is this beautiful blend of creamy clay and exfoliating dead sea salt which gives you a perfect cleanse. I also enjoy using it as a mask in the shower, leaving on for 10 minutes or so. The ACTIVATE body wash was really interesting because it’s BLACK! Both volcanic ash and activated charcoal give its color and along with dead sea salt and clay gives you a perfectly light exfoliation while helping to detox the skin.

November 2017 – Ayuna

  • Essence (full size) & Cream II (deluxe sample) & Soap (deluxe sample)
  • Value: $205
  • Ayuna is one of those luxury brands that you figure you’re never going to be able to afford to try until Beauty Heroes comes to the rescue! I was so excited to try this luxury brand and it did not disappoint. Essence is a truly unique cream-in-oil peel/exfoliator that you massage onto your skin, let dry, and then gommage off. It leaves your skin truly silky and hydrated from the oils. Then Cream II which is the richer of their creams gives your skin the perfect layer of moisture, I am not a fan of creams (I’m an oil girl through and through) but this really changed my mind about creams. Finally the Soap is a gorgeous artisan bar of soap that is so simple and yet works incredibly well to wash away all traces of makeup and dirt prepping your skin for the rest of the Ayuna experience.

December 2017 – Khus Khus Herbal

  • Bleu Body Wax (full size) & Sans Age Face Serum (deluxe sample)
  • Value: $116
  • Here is another brand that I discovered because of Beauty Heroes. Khus Khus is rooted in ayurveda and their formulas are incredible because of it. I immediately fell in love with the Sans Age Face Serum which despite it’s name has german blue chamomile and tons of other anti-inflammatory ingredients that I felt were perfectly suited for acne prone skin needing some soothing. And then the Bleu “body wax” which is really just a solid body oil has similar anti-inflammatory ingredients that bathed my body’s skin in hydrating goodness. This is my holy grail right now with the changing weather drying out my legs and making them super itchy!

January 2018 – Maya Chia

  • Eye Achiever (full size) & The Super Blend (deluxe sample)
  • Value: $105
  • This was my first box that I didn’t immediately love one of the products. The Super Blend has mica in it and I’m just not a fan of mica in my skincare, besides that it’s a beautiful pressed serum and I did appreciate the glow it gave me. The Eye Achiever on the other hand was easy to love and I was super excited to get to try Maya Chia’s newest product. I didn’t use it super consistently but I think it absolutely nourished my under eyes and helped me look more well-rested.

February 2018 – Fitglow Beauty

  • Cloud Comfort Cream (full size) & Redness Rescue Cream (full size)
  • Value: $153
  • I had been dying to try Fitglow so this was a really exciting box. As I’ve mentioned I’m not a huge cream/lotion gal, I really like my oils, so I was a little worried about how I’d like these but I was pleasantly surprised. Fitglow is top notch (their makeup is unparalleled) so I shouldn’t have expected anything less. The Cloud Comfort Cream is the lightest of day creams and absorbs so well, it gives your skin just enough moisture. The Redness Rescue Cream is a pale green to help offset any redness and also is super light and absorbs well. I loved mixing the two together with foundation to create the PERFECT tinted moisturizer.

March 2018 – Siam Seas

  • Yen Heal and Hydrate Toner (full size) & Morning Delight Oil Cleanser (deluxe sample)
  • Value: $105
  • Yet again I was excited to try a brand that I had seen but not yet tried. This was my first experience with an essence, or a more potent toner. The Yen Heal and Hydrate Toner is not your average face mist, it’s fairly viscous albeit still liquid and is PACKED full of skin nourishing ingredients. I loved patting it on my face like a serum right after cleansing or using it to mix into a powder mask. However my real love was the Morning Delight cleanser – it literally wiped away every trace of makeup, left my skin hydrated and plump, and washed off with water!!!

April 2018 – de Mamiel

  • Intense Nurture Antioxidant Elixir (full size) & Exhale Daily Hydrating Nectar (deluxe sample)
  • Value: $147
  • I have a habit of falling in love with the “sidekicks” in the Beauty Heroes boxes and this was no exception. The Exhale Daily Hydrating Nectar is actually a tined SPF, more like THE tinted SPF, no other compares. I ran out of this so quick it was ridiculous, while the tint itself is very sheer the consistency and texture is perfection. The Nurture Antioxidant Elixir is a beautifully thick, milky serum that I love incorporating when my skin needs some extra love – this gives an instantly hydrated and plumpness to your skin.

May 2018 – OSEA Malibu

  • Ocean Cleanser (full size) & Undaria Body Polish (full size)
  • Value: $92
  • Finally I got to try OSEA! And it did not disappoint. The Ocean Cleanser quickly became a favorite of mine, it’s the perfect second cleanse at night, milky and hydrating. And then the addition of lactic acid gives you the most gentle exfoliation as well. The Undaria Body Polish is a creamy body scrub that gives you just enough manual exfoliation to shed some dead skin cells in the shower. I really appreciated the creamy texture keeping my skin moisturized while exfoliating.

June 2018 – HONUA

  • MOANA Mask (full size) & MALU Day Cream SPF (full size)
  • Value: $90
  • The MOANA mask is in my top 5 masks for sure. Somehow it manages to soothe and nourish while it detoxifies and purifies. Its also one of those masks that doesn’t really dry, which I absolutely love because I’m a chronic masker that leaves them on for 30 minutes to an hour if possible. The MALU day cream SPF is the most beautiful facial SPF you can find. It absorbs like no other, no white cast AT ALL, and somehow has SPF 30 / 18.9% zinc oxide.

July 2018 – True Botanicals

  • Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner & Wash (full sizes)
  • Value: $96
  • It was really cool to have some hair products featured! Any not just any hair products but from True Botanicals. This was actually a brand I didn’t really care about, but I really enjoyed getting to try their shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The shampoo and conditioner are pretty incredible for being 100% free of any nasties, I felt the shampoo lathered well and cleaned really well with just one wash and the conditioner was nice and light which I need with fine, blonde hair. These would not work as well for someone who needs really hydrating hair products FYI. The body wash was really lovely, smelled great, and lathered well.

August 2018 – Ayuna

  • Cream (full size) & Body Cream (travel size)
  • Value: $257
  • A second box filled with Ayuna!? Yep! And getting to try out their brand new Body Cream!? Yep! As you can imagine both of these products are AMAZING. The Cream is seriously the only face cream I can possibly dream of using now. Somehow it’s almost a combination of an oil and a lotion, like the best of both worlds. And then the Body Cream – I mean talk about holy grail of body lotions. It has a probiotic in it to help feed your skin, and I must say this is one of the only products that alleviates my super itchy legs.

September 2018 – Josh Rosebrook

  • Active Enzyme Exfoliator (full size) & Advanced Hydration Mask (full size) & Hydrating Accelerator (travel size)
  • Value: $125
  • I can’t believe it took me until this box to finally try Josh’s products – Beauty Heroes to the rescue, again! These are as amazing as you’d imagine. The Active Enzyme Exfoliator is a beautiful way to exfoliate both manually and chemically and reveal glowing skin. The Advanced Hydration Mask is one of only a handful of products that actually keeps my skin hydrated all night long and still feels dewy in the morning. The Hydrating Accelerator is a great face mist full of great ingredients however I was not a fan of the scent. I will say that my number one use for this was as a makeup setting spray, it absolutely transforms your complexion smoothing lines and giving a beautiful dewy glow.

October 2018 – LILFOX Miami

  • Prickly Pear Illuminating Beauty Nectar (full size) & Kalahari Brightening Eye Serum (deluxe sample)
  • Value: $144
  • Another brand I finally got to try thanks to Beauty Heroes! I am now in love with prickly pear oil as my skin absolutely drinks up this Illuminating Beauty Nectar. It sinks in so well and layers really nicely with other oils. The Kalahari Brightening Eye Serum is really lovely, it’s very light so it absorbs well and I honestly noticed a difference in the brightness of my under eyes using this consistently.

As you can see Beauty Heroes is an incredible subscription box and the value is incredible. The range of products is super diverse as is the ethos of each brand featured. The perks of being a subscription member are also unmatched. I would highly recommend you sign up if you’re on the fence! You can use my referral link if you’d like! Thank you so much for following along and reading all my thoughts on my experience with Beauty Heroes so far.
